Mediation: The Ethos
- Mediation is a voluntary process and an informal alternative to court proceedings.
- The Mediator will work as a neutral facilitator, managing the mediation process to provide a secure environment in which you can discuss issues with your partner.
- The couple retain control over the decisions.
- The children’s needs and the couple's interests are considered.
- Discussions in good faith.
- Treating each other with respect, retaining dignity and self-worth.
- Conflict is minimised.
- Finding solutions for the future, not punishing your partner or yourself over past issues and actions.
- A more holistic approach; a Family Consultant can give one or both of you support and preparation to work through personal or marital issues and to improve communication in the mediation process and in the future.
- Exchanging financial papers and information in an open and honest way.
- Equal responsibility for input and resolution.
- Independent legal advice and support from your own lawyers, who will be able to implement any privileged Memorandum of Understanding reached in the mediation process.
